The Application Process

What you should know before applying:

  • Applications will be accepted beginning November 1, 2007
  • The job title given to MDA interns is regional public affairs coordinator, or RPAC for short.
  • The MDA internship position is a paid internship program offered only during the summer months.
  • The internship time frame can be adjusted for individual school schedules. Candidates must work a 12 to 16 week period between May 19 and Sept. 5, 2008
  • Depending on the needs of the MDA field offices, the available locations for the internship vary from year to year.
  • Candidates may choose to be considered for up to three cities to work from, ranking them in order of preference.
  • Applicants should consider their personal situations when choosing a location.
  • Applications will be accepted until all positions have been filled. Most positions fill before the end of the fall semester. Check the main page of the internship site for updates on available locations.
  • Internship salaries start at $350/week, depending on location.
  • All persons in the program are required to work 35 hours per week for the entire length of the program.
  • Positions are open to students currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate studies or who will graduate the spring prior to the start of the internship.

Selection Process

    Interested applicants must apply online at www.mdainternships.org/applyonline by creating a profile and submitting a cover letter, resume and writing sample. Submissions that do not include all requested materials will not be considered.

    Applications are reviewed by MDA’s Public Information Department at MDA National Headquarters.

    Selected candidates are called to schedule a telephone interview with an MDA public information representative.

    Interviews are conducted on scheduled dates.

    Applicants are notified if they are selected for a second interview with an MDA representative from the selected work location/city. The interview can be either by telephone or in person.

    Selections or regrets are sent to applicants after second interview.

    Applicants selected for the internship are required to fill out pre-employment paperwork and will receive a welcome letter with additional information.

    Upon acceptance of the internship position, applicants will need to notify MDA of tentative start and end dates for the internship.
